June 2026 - QUDOS researchers gather at UCL for 9th plenary meeting
Researchers from the QUDOS consortium gathered at UCL on 23 June 2026 for the 9th QUDOS Plenary Meeting. The event brought together scientists and engineers from the four partner institutions—namely the University of Cambridge, Cardiff University, the University of Southampton, and UCL—to share the latest technical developments and review progress towards comprehensive optical integration on silicon.
Members of the External Advisory Board (EAB) also took part in the meeting.

Alwyn Seeds, Principal Investigator of the QUDOS programme, opened the session by highlighting recent project achievements and outlining the milestones remaining as the programme advances through its final phase.
The meeting then featured technical talks from researchers across the four universities detailing the developments of their specific projects.
Chong Chen, Jae-Seong Park and Hui Jia of UCL discussed the GaAs buffers on trenched V-groove on-axis (001) silicon substrates, Si-based InAs/GaAs quantum dot lasers, and InAs/InP Quantum Dot Lasers from the C-Band to Beyond 2 μm under P1 respectively.

Michele Paparella, Lifeng Bao, and Daniel Bedilu of the University of Southampton talked about updates on monolithic integration on silicon, highlighting advancements toward integration with 400 nm silicon nitride (SiN) platforms.

Finally, researchers of P3 and P4 gave talks under the same session on integration and demonstrators. Dun Qiao and Pawan Mishra of Cardiff University talked about on-chip InAs quantum dot tuneable DFB laser for photonic integration, and intermixing for monolithic photonic integration. Yang Shi and Chunhui Yao of the University of Cambridge talked about recent progress on integrated SiN photonic switching circuits and programmable on-chip spectrometers.

Following the main presentations of the four projects, the meeting featured a dynamic session of single-slide presentations, allowing researchers to pitch concise updates on specific projects and experimental results. The coffee and lunch breaks provided an interactive forum for poster viewings and informal technical exchanges, fostering deep discussions on cross-institutional project alignments.

All in all, with lively discussions and exchanges, the meeting concluded with a roadmap for the upcoming months, maintaining momentum toward the consortium's goal of achieving full monolithic integration of optical functions on silicon substrates.
